Airport History

Lorain County Regional Airport (KLPR) opened in November 1968 in New Russia Township, near Elyria and Oberlin in northern Ohio. Serving the Lorain County area west of Cleveland, it developed into a base for private flying and business aviation, with a general aviation reliever role supporting the wider region.

MRK Aviation established its presence at the airport in 2003 and began managing the facilities on behalf of Lorain County in 2006. Subsequent investment has included runway rehabilitation, improved lighting, apron improvements and additional hangar development. The runway was renovated again in June 2024, continuing the airport's development as a facility for local aircraft owners and visiting operators.

Today

Today, Lorain County Regional accommodates private aircraft, flight training and corporate aviation, from light single-engine aeroplanes to business jets. MRK Aviation provides full-service FBO facilities, including 100LL and Jet A fuel, hangar and apron parking, deicing and pilot amenities. Aircraft maintenance is available on site, including an authorised Cirrus Service Centre. The airport also supports a wider aviation community, with tenants including Metro Life Flight, the Civil Air Patrol and Discover Aviation Center.

Navigation Details

Runway 07/25 measures 1,525 m x 30.5 m (5,002 ft x 100 ft) and has a grooved asphalt surface with high-intensity runway lighting. Runway 07 is served by an ILS/localiser approach, an RNAV (GPS) approach and MALSR approach lighting. Both runway ends have PAPI visual approach guidance, with runway end identifier lights on Runway 25. Airport elevation is approximately 793 ft (242 m).

Scenery Features

This scenery is created with high-quality modelling, PBR textures and close attention to detail. It includes custom ground imagery and markings matched to the real airport. Where appropriate, selected hangars feature interior detail, while some buildings include transparent glazing and visible interiors. The scenery is optimised for efficient simulator performance and is regularly updated with content improvements and bug fixes. Airport-specific static aircraft may be included to give the airfield a distinctive, lived-in character; these do not occupy airliner parking stands, which remain available for default or add-on AI aircraft. This scenery also now includes an animated opening hangar which is proximity activated and also activated by the starting and shutting of your engine. You can now start your flight inside the hangar and when you start your engine the hangar door will open for you. We are also now starting to incorporate purpose-made animated characters into the scenery.
